Two Photographers One Shoot

Looking back I used to be SO scared of competition. I mean SO. SCARED.

I followed all the other local photogs and constantly judged myself against them. It was silly.

Looking back from where I am today, I am very confident that no one will be me. No one COULD be me.

Photography is an art. Every image is MY vision. It’s not just about picking up a good camera and shooting it. (Just ask my husband how well he does with my camera LOL)

I’ve actually stopped following all local competition and it feels GREAT! Just doing my own thing and LOVING it!

No one cares less about competition than my good friend Lauren of LK Squared Photography. One day I sold a newborn bonnet online, and she bought it. We stood on my steps and talked a while, realizing we had so much in common. Silly things. We both live in Long Beach. Both photographers. Both have 2 little kids. Both have a chihuahua. Both lived with our fathers in high school.

It was almost strange. But that day, on my steps, I knew I had just made an amazing friend. And I did.

I can’t even tell you the value of having someone LOCAL to talk to about ANYTHING. Don’t get me wrong, I love my other local friends and photog friends around the WORLD, but Lauren and I just clicked and it is so much fun hanging out with her. Whether it’s grabbing dinner, playdates with our kids, or shooting together, it’s always a great time!

Did I mention our oldest littles are in love? The funniest part is that we didn’t know until I invited them over, that they had already met on the camp bus. Benny called her “cutie pie”. How sweet?

When she mentioned she was scouting a new location I hopped along and I’m so glad I did. We were able to capture the most beautiful images of our “babies” and even went out for ice cream after. What’s better than that?

And just to show you no one can be me. No one can be Lauren. She documents life in the most amazing way. Here are our VERY different versions of one moment in our shoot:

The work from both of you is true art! Not sure what I love more, the use of color and light or the emotion you capture in your photos.
